1. NEET UG 2027 Tie-Breaking Rules: How Is Rank Decided?
When two or more candidates obtain equal marks or percentile scores in NEET UG, NTA uses a prescribed inter-se-merit process to determine their ranking. The latest available official reference is the NEET UG 2026 Information Bulletin.
According to the 2026 bulletin, the following order is used to resolve a tie:
1. Higher Marks in Biology
Candidates with higher marks or percentile scores in Biology, including Botany and Zoology, receive the first preference.
2. Higher Marks in Chemistry
If the tie remains, the candidate with higher marks or percentile scores in Chemistry is given preference.
3. Higher Marks in Physics
If candidates are still tied, higher marks or percentile scores in Physics are considered.
4. Lower Incorrect-to-Correct Answer Ratio in All Subjects
The candidate with a lower proportion of attempted incorrect answers compared with correct answers across all subjects receives preference.
5. Lower Incorrect-to-Correct Answer Ratio in Biology
If the tie continues, the ratio of attempted incorrect answers to correct answers in Biology (Botany and Zoology) is considered.
6. Lower Incorrect-to-Correct Answer Ratio in Chemistry
The candidate with a lower proportion of attempted incorrect answers compared with correct answers in Chemistry receives preference.
7. Lower Incorrect-to-Correct Answer Ratio in Physics
If the tie remains unresolved, the corresponding ratio in Physics is considered.
8. Random Process Under Expert Committee Guidance
If all the above criteria fail to resolve the tie, the final tie is resolved through a random process guided by an independent expert committee.
Important: This is the tie-breaking order stated in the NEET UG 2026 Information Bulletin. NTA has not yet confirmed whether any modification will be introduced for NEET UG 2027.
