योजना विवरण

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a maternity benefit scheme of the Government of India for eligible pregnant and lactating women. The scheme provides financial assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) with the objective of partially compensating for wage loss and encouraging appropriate health-seeking behaviour during pregnancy and after childbirth.

What is PMMVY?

PMMVY provides maternity benefit support to eligible women for the first living child. Under the current scheme provisions, eligible women can also receive a benefit for the second child when the second child is a girl. The benefit is subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions and maternity-related requirements.

Financial Assistance Under PMMVY

  • First living child: Eligible beneficiaries receive a total benefit of ₹5,000 in two instalments.
  • Second child: A benefit of ₹6,000 is available in a single instalment when the second child is a girl, subject to applicable conditions.
  • The benefit is transferred directly to the beneficiary's eligible Aadhaar-based bank or post office account through DBT.

Objectives of PMMVY

  • Provide partial compensation for wage loss during maternity.
  • Encourage pregnant women to obtain appropriate antenatal care.
  • Promote healthy practices during pregnancy and after childbirth.
  • Support better health and nutrition for mothers and children.
  • Encourage timely registration of pregnancy and child birth.
  • Promote completion of recommended early childhood immunization.

Who Can Be Eligible for PMMVY?

PMMVY is primarily intended for women belonging to socially and economically disadvantaged or specified eligible categories. Eligibility can include women belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe communities, women with specified disabilities, BPL ration-card holders, eligible beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, e-Shram card holders, eligible women farmers receiving Kisan Samman Nidhi, MGNREGA job-card holders, women whose net family income is below the prescribed limit, eligible pregnant and lactating Anganwadi Workers, Anganwadi Helpers and ASHAs, and women holding eligible ration cards under the National Food Security Act.

Conditions for First Child Benefit

For the first living child, the first instalment is linked with pregnancy registration and completion of at least two antenatal check-ups. The second instalment requires registration of the child's birth and completion of the first cycle of universal immunization, as prescribed under the scheme.

Conditions for Second Girl Child Benefit

For the second child, the ₹6,000 benefit is available when the second child is a girl and the prescribed conditions are fulfilled. These include pregnancy registration, the required antenatal check-ups, registration of the child's birth and completion of the first cycle of universal immunization.

Documents and Information Required

  • Aadhaar details of the beneficiary.
  • Aadhaar-linked bank or eligible post office account details.
  • Mobile number.
  • Proof of eligibility under the applicable category.
  • Maternal and Child Protection or related health record details.
  • Pregnancy and antenatal check-up details.
  • Child birth registration details, where applicable.
  • Child immunization details, where applicable.

How to Apply for PMMVY

  1. Eligible women can apply through the PMMVY online system.
  2. Women can also seek assistance from the nearest Anganwadi Worker or ASHA Worker.
  3. Provide the required personal, pregnancy and eligibility information.
  4. Submit the required documents and supporting information.
  5. Complete the applicable pregnancy, birth and immunization conditions.
  6. After approval, the eligible benefit is transferred through DBT to the beneficiary's eligible account.

Role of Anganwadi and ASHA Workers

Anganwadi Workers and ASHA Workers can assist eligible beneficiaries with online registration and provide information about the application process. They can also help beneficiaries understand the required conditions and track application-related information through the applicable system.

Important Points

  • PMMVY is a conditional maternity benefit scheme; payment is linked to prescribed conditions.
  • The scheme benefit is transferred through DBT to the eligible beneficiary.
  • Aadhaar-based identification and payment requirements apply according to the scheme provisions.
  • The second-child benefit is specifically applicable when the second child is a girl and prescribed conditions are met.
  • Women already receiving similar maternity benefits under applicable government employment or other provisions may not be eligible under PMMVY, subject to scheme rules.
  • Eligibility categories and application requirements should be checked before submitting an application.

Conclusion

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is an important maternity benefit programme that supports eligible women during pregnancy and after childbirth. By providing financial assistance through DBT and linking benefits with antenatal care, birth registration and early immunization requirements, the scheme aims to promote better maternal and child health while providing partial compensation for wage loss.
