Students planning to appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2027 should understand the age limit, Class 12 qualification, compulsory subjects, minimum marks and nationality requirements before applying.

As of 31 October 2026, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has not published the NEET UG 2027 Information Bulletin. Therefore, the eligibility details in this article are based on the latest available official NEET UG 2026 Information Bulletin and the existing National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations. Candidates must verify the final 2027 rules when NTA releases its official bulletin.

1. NEET UG 2027 Age Limit

Under the existing NMC age rule followed in the NEET UG 2026 Information Bulletin, a candidate must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31 December of the year in which the NEET examination is conducted.

For NEET UG 2027, applying the same rule means the candidate should complete 17 years by 31 December 2027. Accordingly, the expected date-of-birth cut-off is 31 December 2010 or earlier. The final date must be confirmed through the NEET UG 2027 Information Bulletin.

Age ConditionNEET UG 2027 Rule
Minimum Age17 years
Age Completion DateOn or before 31 December 2027
Expected Date of Birth Cut-off31 December 2010 or earlier
Maximum AgeNo upper age limit under existing rules

2. Is There Any Upper Age Limit for NEET 2027?

No. Under the existing NMC rule referenced in the NEET UG 2026 Information Bulletin, there is no upper age limit for appearing in NEET UG.

Candidates above 25 years of age can also appear, provided they satisfy the educational qualification and other applicable eligibility requirements. Candidates should check the final 2027 bulletin for any updated instructions.

3. NEET UG 2027 Educational Qualification

Candidates should have passed or be appearing in the Class 12 examination or an equivalent qualifying examination. The qualifying examination must include the prescribed subjects and practical components wherever applicable.

The main subjects required under the existing eligibility framework are:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology or Biotechnology
  • English

Candidates appearing in Class 12 in 2027 may apply provisionally. However, they must pass the qualifying examination and meet the applicable admission requirements by the prescribed counselling stage.

4. NEET 2027 Class 12 Percentage Criteria

Candidates often confuse the minimum Class 12 subject marks with the NEET examination qualifying percentile. These are two different requirements.

The commonly followed qualifying examination benchmarks for admission to undergraduate medical courses are listed below. These should be checked against the final NEET UG 2027 bulletin and applicable NMC admission regulations before relying on them.

CategoryPCB Aggregate Benchmark
General / EWS50%
SC / ST / OBC-NCL40%
General-PwBD45%

Important: The NEET UG 2026 Information Bulletin lists the required qualifying subjects and separately specifies NEET examination qualifying percentiles. It does not present the above PCB aggregate table as a separate universal percentage table in its eligibility-to-appear section. Candidates should verify the exact qualifying marks and admission requirements in the 2027 bulletin and relevant course regulations.

5. NEET UG Qualifying Percentile Criteria

The qualifying percentile in NEET is different from the Class 12 PCB percentage. Under the NEET UG 2026 Information Bulletin, the following examination qualifying percentiles were specified for admission to undergraduate medical courses:

CategoryNEET Qualifying Percentile
General / General-EWS50th percentile
SC / ST / OBC-NCL40th percentile
General / EWS-PwBD45th percentile
SC / ST / OBC-NCL-PwBD40th percentile

The actual marks corresponding to a percentile can change every year depending on the examination results and the performance of candidates. The 2027 qualifying marks will be known only after the examination and result process.

6. Can Students Appearing in Class 12 Apply for NEET 2027?

Yes. Students appearing in their Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2027 can apply for NEET UG 2027 under the existing rules.

However, appearing in NEET does not automatically guarantee admission. Candidates must pass the qualifying examination with the required subjects and fulfil the applicable eligibility conditions by the relevant counselling and admission stage.

7. Can Students Take Biology or Biotechnology as an Additional Subject?

The NEET UG 2026 Information Bulletin recognises candidates who study the required subjects, namely Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English, as additional subjects after passing Class 12 from a duly recognised board, subject to documentary evidence and the applicable conditions.

Therefore, candidates who have completed the required subjects later should carefully read the official bulletin and keep proof of passing those subjects. The final decision will depend on the rules applicable to NEET UG 2027.

8. Nationality Criteria for NEET UG 2027

Under the existing NEET eligibility framework, the following categories may apply subject to the applicable admission and documentation rules:

  • Indian Nationals
  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)
  • Overseas Citizens of India (OCI)
  • Foreign Nationals

NRI, OCI and foreign candidates may need to provide additional nationality or embassy documents during the application or counselling process. They should check the relevant instructions in the official information bulletin.

9. Is There Any Limit on the Number of NEET Attempts?

The existing NEET UG eligibility framework does not prescribe a fixed maximum number of attempts. Candidates who satisfy the age and educational qualification conditions can appear again, subject to the rules applicable to that examination year.

10. Important Documents for NEET UG Application

Candidates should keep the following documents and details ready before the application process:

  • Class 10 certificate or marksheet for date of birth proof.
  • Class 12 marksheet or appearing examination details.
  • Recent passport-size photograph.
  • Scanned signature and other required images.
  • Valid identity proof as prescribed by NTA.
  • Category certificate, if applicable.
  • PwBD certificate, if applicable.
